The Uyeda Brothers
Tandem Kayak Fishing - Double the Fun!
Kayak Must Haves
This is the most popular
PFD with the Aquahunters Crew. Comfortable, lots of
pockets, and easy to paddle with it on.
This is the PFD we
(Uyeda Brothers) use because it's small and stays out
of our way.
We love our Horizon VHF
Radio because it floats, it has 6 watts of power, and
ours has an emergency button which will send out a
distress signal w/our GPS coordinates.
This waterproof cel
phone from Casio is awesome, but mine is now at the
bottom of the ocean...probably still works.
This is the waterproof
Casio Exilim that I use now. Good, waterproof, but
doesn't take too good pictures.
Paddle leashes can be
life savers. Where can you go w/o a paddle?
Our Garmin GPSmap 76cx
is so easy to use and easy to sync w/a computer, so
you'll never lose your spots even if the GPS
dies!
Gareth wears this style
of hat because he hates having a burnt neck.
I use this style of hat
becaue I hate a burnt neck and burnt ears. Mine is
the Hawaii Fishing News one.
This is a MUST have for
us because we don't want skin cancer!
Kayak Bow Line - Can be
used for towing, as a leash to your kayak, to pull
your kayak out of the water, and many other
things.
Mirror and whistle -
Light weight, small, easy to carry, and easy to
use.
Streamer. Look at the
pictures! Speaks for itself...so valuable in an
emergency.
This isn't exactly the
strobe light we have, but we use ours if we're
paddling in low light situations so boats can see
us.
Flares and smoke flares.
At first we thought they were expensive, then our
friend said, "How much is your life worth?" We bought
some right after that.
PLB (Personal Locator
Beacon) will continuously send out an emergency
signal w/your exact GPS location until you're
found.
Garmin 440s
Chartplotter/Fishfinder combo. Not a "must have," but
it's nice to have.
EPIRB (Emergency
Position Indicating Radio Beacon) A little big and
bulky for a kayak, but still very valuable. Similar
to the PLB, but with greater range.
